Suspending My Dlist Account

As the year of 2009 is coming to an end, I'm pulling back on the social networks that aren't working for me.

With Dlist it all started with this message:

Your account has been suspended by a DList admin. Check your email for a message explaining the possible reasons. You cannot send email, use chat, and people cannot view your profile. To become active again, fix the outstanding issues described in the email. Click here to update your profile.

At that point, I had thousands of online friends and was told by Dlist that someone gained control of my account and it had to be suspended. I didn't completely buy that. Dlist did offer a premium service because of the inconvenience of starting over. My new page never bounced back.

Dlist is for twinks and if your over 30 it can be an unwelcoming atmosphere. On the flip side, I loved the fact you could post videos and music. For indie artists that can be a valuable forum. Just expect to invest a lot of time.

2009 Worst Songs - #1 Whatcha Say By Jason Derulo

I was listening to Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo during the first week of Fernando and Greg on Movin 99.7. There should be a warning, "This May Cause Seizures". I had to turn the radio down immediately because it reminds me so much of fingernails across a chalk board.

How this was ever a hit I will never understand? Autotune on crack would be the best way to describe this how mess of a song.

2009 Worst Songs - #2 I Can Transform Ya By Chris Brown

It was shocking to me to see Chris Brown's I Can Transform Ya on Logo's The Click List. After the Rihanna beating you would have thought the network would decline the "pay for play" money.

So throw in electric guitars and a lot of autotune, we are suppose to believe Chris Brown is hardcore. Well I already knew that and it wasn't because of this song.

All this fans can continue to efforts his music, I will never understand. Mr. Brown isn't sorry for what he did. He's sorry for getting caught.

2009 Worst Songs - #3 We Are Golden By Mika

Sometimes when you milk something too much that isn't a good thing. Mika sings We Are Golden in a super high pitched vocal range. I found myself wondering if the mirrors were going to shatter around me. I've heard other efforts in his natural voice and I thought to myself that would be so much better for this production.

Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) is my all time favorite Mika track. It worked perfectly for the television show, Ugly Betty.

2009 Worst Songs - #4 Love Etc. By Pet Shop Boys

This was a difficult decision as I love Go West and Absolutely Fabulous by the Pet Shop Boys. With that said Love Etc. fell flat for me this year. Part of it was the programming beats per minute were much slower than previous hits. Also, the singing comes off dare I say a bit whiny.

I went to see the Pet Shop Boys in concert (San Francisco) and was shocked how dark the stage was. From being in the nose bleed section, I didn't see much movement and it could have been 2 stand ins lip syncing for all I know. I watched several of their live video performances and their female singer involved in the past moved around more than the 2some of the Pet Shop Boys.

I have been a fan of Sean Ensign and purchased his debut album. However, Fly Away's vocals sound just like all his other performances. I was hopeful for a different vocal arrangement in the maxi single released this year and didn't get it.

I was so happy to be chosen to participate in a focus group discussing http://www.gay.com/. The site has been a train wreck for years now and I'm surprised they're still in operation. The only positive development was showcasing Here! programming for premium members.

Negatives:

Pictures are tiny and presented unfavorably.

Mr. Gay.com Contest eliminated 3-4 of the final 15 candidates for were suspected of auto voting.

The system crashed during the launch of this contest.

2009 Worst Songs - #6 Lollipop Luxury By Jeffree Star

I finally purchased a song I liked by Jeffree Star, Get Away With Murder. Yet, on the same album, I hated Lollipop Luxury which is her #2 selling song on Itunes. There is too much autotune. Ms. Starr would have been better served featuring her natural voice instead.

Lyrics feature, "Fuck Me I'm a Celebrity - Can't Take Your Eyes Off Me - I'll Make You Fuck Me - Just to Get Some Where".

The album cover does in fact feature a beautiful Jeffree Star and it's ruined by all the fake blood.

Investigative Reporting - Mack Folsom Prison

Message Behind "Got To Be Real" by Dr. Kmer & Jimmy Roland / My #1 Song This Year

Jimmy Roland was kind enough to share the personal story behind "Got to Be Real". I consider the track to be comparable to TLC's Unpretty but with incredible dance beats.

"Got To Be Real"

Not unlike most songs written, "Got To Be Real" came from a personal place and from deep within. Through my travels and meeting people of all types, I learned that we all share similar stories.The main topic always seemed to have been rejection of some sort. I wasn't really writing in those days of heavy traveling so, I began to look for writers to come up with a song for me about different types of rejection (i.e jealousy, racism, weight problems or whatever). I never found the right song.

Then, I met Paolo Stocherro, better known as Dr. Kmer (my current producer), who I collaborated with on "Real". He sent me an instrumental track from Italy. While listening to the track, the music sort of transformed into images and words began to come to mind. I then realized that the long awaited song was coming. Pen in hand, I began to write my experiences of attempting to be accepted by my own immediate family. I began thinking of the conversations I've had with teens who decided to run away from home after being rejected by parents because they were Gay or simply looked or expressed themselves differently. I have personal friends who struggle with weight problems for reasons unknown to critics (they also face rejection) and my eyes began to well up.

I hoped that the song would help the world, by making those of us who allow ourselves to judge others to simply stop for a moment and think about what we are doing. As "the voice", I felt that I could speak out for those who have been face with rejection and just tell it like it is: "...You ought to take some time to look at yourself, Reflections can be startling". The song does however, have a message for the victim as well. That message: Stop trying to change yourself to please others. Be yourself and be real. There is nothing wrong with making changes that you may desire and need. I'm a happier person because I've learned, you'll never please everyone. That's was the motivation behind "Got To Be Real".

I enjoy collaborating with Dr. Kmer. He does the music and I handle the singing and writing. We have completed ideas for several new tracks and plan to record over the holidays. The next release, is a bit different sounding than "Real" and is more on the side of a hip-hop dance track. Look for it in early 2010 and a full-length cd to follow.

I find it so ironic that Perez Hilton is the music authority on his site, http://www.perezhilton.com/. His rap performance of My Penis was just bad. Who came up with these lyrics, "My Penis Is Famous - Suck It".

I will say Larry Tee's programming was brillant. I'm a new fan of his work.
